It was one of a number of regular parties organised by the Little Blue Heroes Foundation in Donegal.
“We have parties for them at Christmas and at Easter time so we took them to Century Play in Letterkenny. A number of them couldn’t be there because they were in hospital. We used Century Play because they have fantastic facilities for the children,” said Sgt Charlene Anderson, one of the organisers of the event.
The Heroes had their pictures taken with London-based photographer, Brendan ‘Tiny’ Vaughan present. Brendan is currently putting the final touches to his next fund-raising campaign which will benefit the Foundation.
“He is really good and along with a couple of businessmen from Letterkenny they have provided us with a Mercedes car which we will raffle in due course. We haven't done the official launch yet but all the money raised will go to the official charity.
The Little Blue Heroes Charity was founded in 2017 and it’s a not for profit charity. It is run voluntarily by Garda members and retired members as well as volunteers who are vetted and come in and help.
“It is independent of An Garda Siochana but it is for little children with life-limiting illnesses who are made honorary Gardai and they become Little Blue Heroes. We would call to them for their birthdays and at Christmas and have little parties for them.
“It’s to help the families and to help them as well and to give them that wee bit of life in a dark time. Any money that’s taken into the charity goes to the families and they are given financial support and little things like that. We bring them into the Garda Station and we do our best to make life better for them,” said Sgt. Anderson.
