It is no secret that Donegal is a place of secrecy …

Now, Donegal is beautiful, remote and rugged. Sometimes we like it when we get recognised for our natural beauty, such as being named ‘coolest place on the planet’ but it only goes so far… Although it is lovely to have our beauty recognised we are used to being forgotten by this stage and let’s be honest, maybe we learned to love it. Having all of this beautiful scenery and getting to embrace it all on our own. It’s not that we don’t want visitors of course we do, all we are saying is we are used to it being our hidden gem.

We even saw a play on this recently with the Donegal Its Ours/Its Yours campaign as part of #LoveDonegal. It’s Ours/It’s Yours was launched by Donegal Tourism and it is a celebration of the county's unique charm and beauty. 

The famous social-media influencer from Glen, outside Carrigart, Eric Roberts, satirically twisted the campaign to ‘Donegal it’s yours no it is not it’s ours’ in a bid to keep our beautiful county a hidden gem - “Ah I’m only messing you’re more than welcome… just keep it to yourself.”
