There was action in the Clubman Shirts League Cup, Charlie O’Donnell Cup and Clubman Shirts League Cup

Charlie O’Donnell Cup
QPS 3
Carn FC 3

Carn started this game in whirlwind fashion and opened the scoring on seven minutes when a Kyran Cantwell cross cum shot deceived Lee McColgan in the home goal.

They doubled their lead on 20 minutes when a Cade Cooke cross was retrieved by Lorcan Bradley  and squeezed  home from a tight angle. The home side responded and both Callum O'Hagan and John McCloskey were denied by Kyle Harkin in the Carn goal.

They got a goal back on 28 minutes when Josh Boyle capitalised on hesitancy in the visitors defence to fire a twenty five yards effort to the far corner.

Minutes later they were back on terms when  Mark Murray released Boyle whose cross was superbly glanced home by John McCluskey. But Carn ended the half well and McColgan was called into action to save smartly  from both Ross Farren and Cantwell.

The  second half saw play swing from end to end with plenty of goalmouth action. Carn’s Cian Burke and substitute Brandon Browne both had effort saved by McColgan while at the other end McCloskey headed wide,  Boyle had an effort blocked by keeper Harkin  who also denied Reece McGilloway.

The point then took the lead on  66 minutes  after a ricochet inside the area fell into the path of McCluskey and he slotted home from eight yards.  But Carn upped their game and when a Browne cross fell to Burke he was denied by another save from McColgan.

Burke then saw another effort parried and the loose ball fell to Browne who headed wide when well placed. The visitors earned a deserved share of the spoils on 79 minutes when substitute Chris Divers cross was poked home  at the back post by Browne.

Aileach Res 6
Gleneely Colts  0
Gleneely had an early chance in this game but Paul Gamble could only direct his header straight at Sean McGuinness in the home goal.

Doherty then turned provider  when he slipped the ball into the path of Pol McGrory to hammer to the roof of the net from fourteen yards. In the opening minute of the second half Aileach made it four nil after Bradley  and McGrory combined for  Anthony Doherty to finish well from close range.

Doherty then  completed his hat trick when  a quickly taken free into the area was superbly flicked to the net. Doherty then got his fourth of the game in the 89th minute to seal the victory.

Clonmany Res 2
Greencastle Youths 2
Clonmany made a good start and had the first chance in the second minute when Tiernan Devine headed over from Paul McLaughlin's free kick on half way.

Greencastle responded and took the lead in the 12th minute when Dan Rowan's cross from the left found Nathan Harkin in space on the right side of the box and he slotted low past Kieran Friel to the bottom left hand corner of the net.

Greencastle doubled their lead in the 21st minute after Dan Rowan ran on to a long ball and was one on one with Kieran Friel and slotted home coolly. Clonmany reduced the deficit midway through the half  when Brian Devlin crossed from the right wing and Mark Doherty's deft backwards head flick from  10 yards out carried the ball over the advancing Greencastle keeper Brendan McClenaghan.

Greencastle ‘s Kyle Harkin caused some concern in the 26th minute when his inswinging corner from the right was punched clear from under his crossbar by Kieran Friel.  Greencastle almost produced a spectacular third goal in the 40th minute when Dan Rowan's cross from  the left was met by a diving header from Ciaran Moore but  it was tipped over the bar by Kieran Friel.

Clonmany equalised in the dying seconds of the half when Logan McDaid's pass found Mark Doherty in space on the right of the Greencastle box and he slotted low under Brendan McClenaghan to the bottom corner.

The second half saw Greencastle dominating possession but some inspired goalkeeping from Kieran Friel saw Clonmany frustrate the Greencastle forwards. In the 59th minute Ciaran Moore's ball from the left was controlled by Nathan Harkin on the right but his shot was saved by Kieran Friel.

Greencastle substitute Christy Hegarty saw his 62nd minute cross from the left controlled by Nathan Harkin but his shot was blocked by Paul McLaughlin. Nathan Harkin went close three minutes later when he broke forward from midfield but saw his shot come back off the right hand post before being hacked to safety.

In the 75th minute Ciaran Moore received a pass on the 18yard line but saw his shot go wide of the left hand post.  In the 84th minute Greencastle’s Seamy McLaughlin had a good opportunity but Kieran Friel made another outstanding save.

Greencastle’s Kyle Harkin had their last opportunity in the 89th minute when he dribbled to the byline but he blasted his shot across the face of the goal with no-one able to add a finishing touch.

Clonmany almost stole the result at the death when Thomas Comiskey found space on the right to cross to Mark Doherty on the edge of the box but saw his shot rising over the Greencastle crossbar.
