PICTURES: Flooded N80 road at risk of closure in Laois town waiting eight years for defences

Fear and water rises in Mountmellick with house flooded and road and paths closed

Floods have hit Mountmellick in Laois yet again, with waters rising on the N80 main road through the town, one household flooded out and others preparing for the worst. The N80 in Irishtown is still open but may be closed if the water keeps rising. Manor Road is closed.  While rain has stopped, the Owenass river continues to overflow as it rises with rains from the Slieve Bloom Mountains.  More to follow. Tap NEXT to view gallery.
