WATCH: Apex and Children in Crossfire - a lasting impact in Africa

Apex’s ‘life-changing’ projects in Tanzania

Since 2001, Apex Housing Association (Apex) has fundraised over £300,000 for the charity Children in Crossfire to support life-changing projects in East Africa. Earlier this year, a group of staff from the organisation travelled to Tanzania to see first-hand how its fundraising is having an impact there.

The story of the trip is the focus of a new heart-warming video released by Apex, which features Richard Moore, Founder and Executive Director of Children in Crossfire; Sheena McCallion, Chief Executive of Apex; and some of the Apex staff who travelled to Tanzania.

To coincide with the launch of the video, Apex has also unveiled its new Christmas card fundraiser, which will help raise money to build six early childhood development centres in Dar es Salaam. The cards, which are an alternative to a Christmas gift, can be bought in values of £5, £10, £20 and £50 from any of Apex’s offices.

Sheena McCallion, Chief Executive of Apex, explains: “During our trip to Tanzania in August, we visited the Misungwi district to see some of the 16 pre-primary school classrooms that were built as a result of the support of Apex staff and tenants. It’s hard to put into words the overwhelming welcome that we received from the children and teaching staff or the huge impact that these classrooms have made to the lives of the children and their communities.”

“Following the success of these pre-primary school classrooms, we are now working to raise enough money to build six early childhood development centres in inner-city Dar es Salaam. After more than 20 years working with Children in Crossfire, we are as committed as ever to supporting these life-changing projects in Africa.”

Richard Moore, Founder and Executive Director of Children in Crossfire, commented: “I didn’t envisage the buy-in that Apex has ended up having with Children in Crossfire.

"It’s incredible.  All of the money raised is going directly to the projects and being spent on the ground to ensure that these children are given the best possible start in life. Tens of thousands of children will benefit from what Apex is doing.”
