Derry's Nerve Centre to host 'Iron Ladies' documentary screening and Q&A

Contributor Rose Hunter joins director Dan Draper to discuss the enduring power of the Miners' Wives groups

A special screening of the critically acclaimed documentary 'Iron Ladies' will be held in Derry's Nerve Centre on Friday, January 30, at 7.00pm. The event will feature an exclusive post-screening Q&A with director Dan Draper and film contributor Rose Hunter.

'Iron Ladies' reveals the powerful, untold story of the working-class women who stood at the forefront of the 1984-85 Miners' Strike. Moving beyond the traditional narratives of the era, the film highlights how women from coalfields stretching from Scotland to Kent became the essential backbone of the struggle against the British state to save their local communities.

The film documents a pivotal shift in British social history, showing how these women transitioned from domestic roles to becoming formidable political activists - a legacy that continues to shape working-class movements today.

Following the screening, audiences will have the opportunity to engage in a discussion with film director Dan Draper and Rose Hunter, a key contributor to the film and a veteran of the North Staffordshire Miners' Wives Action Group, who remains an active voice in political activism.

Tickets are available now via the Nerve Centre website.

'Iron Ladies' is currently on general release in cinemas. It provides an intimate look at the year-long struggle through the eyes of the women who lived it, offering a stark reminder of the resilience of mining communities and the enduring power of female-led activism.
