A Donegal couple will feature on the first episode of a new TG4 documentary.
Anne (nee Doherty) from Gaoth Dobhair and Eddie McFadden from Cloich Cheann Fhaola will share their story of how they met in Gaoth Dobhair in 1980 in An Gúna Bainise.
Narrated by Muireann Ni Dhuigneain, who scans the decades, locations and stories, “An Gúna Bainise” invites brides from across Ireland to dust off their dresses and share the story of their gown and the era in which it was worn.
Every episode tells the story of two dresses, mixing different generations and social groups across both urban and rural Ireland. The show hears from brides both young and young at heart along with the loved ones, of brides now departed.
To help tell each story the featued brides are joined by grooms, family and friends, each with a tale to tell. Complementing each story will be Fashion Designer Deirdre Allen and Social Historian Síle De Cléir, putting context to our dresses, the era in which they were worn and how they reflect the wider changes in our society.
“An Gúna Bainise” mixes heart-warming stories of love conquering all with poignant tales of love lost all too soon. These are real-life Irish stories of family, friendship and love told through the dresses, the places and the people that united our couples, across generations of Irish history and society.
The show will be screened on TG4 each week on Wednesdays from October 18 at 8.30pm. Caitríona Ní Dhonnchú and Cathal Ó Gallchóir from Clontarf, Dublin and Errigal respectively, feature in the second episode.
