Watch: Moment Donal 'Mandy' Kelly is elected as Letterkenny's first councillor

The Glenswilly man rejoiced with family and supporters as the count result was confirmed

Donal 'Mandy' Kelly rejoiced with family members and supporters as he was elected as Letterkenny LEA's first councillor.

Councillor Kelly topped the polls with a vote of 1,841, easily surpassing the quota of 1,629.

Kelly's family and supporters were moved to tears when the result of the count was confirmed.

His supporter group was one of the first who arrived at the Aura Leisure Centre on the morning of the count.

Kelly's brother, the late Manus Kelly, was elected in 2019; however, after his untimely and tragic death during the Donegal International Rally just weeks later, his father Donal Snr took over the role.

Donal 'Mandy' Kelly then took up the reins from Donal Snr after his resignation in 2020.
