Tomás Seán Devine was holding back the tears when it was finally announced that he had passed the quota at the Letterkenny LEA count centre in the early hours of Monday morning.
In his moment of triumph, he remembered his late mother, who passed this year and dedicated his success to her.
"It's been very emotional to be honest," he told DonegalLive afterwards. "I'm glad it's over and lad we're there. I can't get my mother out of my head. I'm happy in some ways and wish she was standing here beside me. We've an extremely brilliant party there now with four voices."
Right from the off of the tallies on Saturday morning, the 100% Redress Party were showing well and Devine followed Ali Farren in Carndonagh, Joy Beard in Buncrana and Denis McGee in Glenties in getting over the line.
