B&Q opened its brand-new store in Letterkenny today, in the third of three store openings across Ireland since 2008.
The opening of the new store follows B&Q's acquisition of three previous Homebase stores earlier this year.
The new B&Q Letterkenny store employs 34 colleagues, of which 19 transferred from Homebase.
The opening was accompanied by music from The Hit Machine drummers who kept crowds entertained.
The new 35,000 square foot B&Q store, located at Letterkenny Retail Park, the site of the previous Homebase store, has been remodelled and refreshed with B&Q branding and products. It will offer a wide range of home improvement essentials, along with a dedicated TradePoint offer tailored to meet the needs of local trade professionals.
In addition to over 13,000 essential home improvement products, there’ll be a dedicated timber cutting service, B&Q’s popular Valspar paint mixing service, and a garden centre offering outdoor plants and gardening equipment and 1-hour click and collect service.
Colleagues celebrated the opening today with live music from the Celtic Drummers, surprise and delight activities for its first customers including a free plant and gift card, a visit from the Dulux dog, and a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The ribbon was cut by Gary Hetherington, store manager, and Patricia Donaghy, who was a longstanding staff member at Homebase and transferred to the new B&Q Letterkenny team.
B&Q Letterkenny opened at 9am on Friday 30 May at Letterkenny Retail Park, Neil T.Blaney Road, Letterkenny, F92 YV60.
John Eason, B&Q Retail Director for Ireland & North UK, who attended the opening said:
“Letterkenny is the third of three new stores to open this month and is a fantastic addition to our retail portfolio in Ireland. We are delighted to be bringing the B&Q and TradePoint extensive offer of home improvement products and services to more customers across Ireland.”
Gary and his team are looking forward to welcoming new customers into the store and helping them with all their DIY projects.
