Matthew Friel, a young Clonmany man who attends the disability day service run by Donegal Community Inclusion Training Services on Buncrana's Millbrae, is a wheelchair user who has encountered some difficulties in moving around on the town's footpaths.
With help from CI Buncrana Advocacy Group, and his liaison officer Bernie Walsh, Matthew has contacted the local authority to discuss the issue of drop kerbs that present difficulties not just for himself and other wheelchair users, but also for the wider community and particularly people with mobility issues or indeed anyone pushing a child in a buggy.
Matthew has secured a meeting with a key staff member at Donegal County Council and is hopeful that the issues he has identified can be addressed. Small solutions would make a huge difference.
