Watch: Donegal mayor in humanitarian aid convoy heading to Ukraine border

Mayor of Donegal Town Pauric Kennedy and lorry driver Gerald Quinn are making good progress as they make their way across Europe to deliver essential supplies to Ukrainian refugees on the Poland - Ukraine border.

Thanks to a mammoth effort collecting and sorting urgently needed goods such as nappies, formula milk, baby food, dried food, tooth brushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo and clothing, the filled lorry is one of three that will deliver these items where they are most needed.

As they made their way across Germany overnight, the Donegal duo found themselves amidst a convoy of humanitarian aid vehicles, and have shared footage of the poignant moment. 

Mr Kennedy said: "I am just overwhelmed that within a week that at least three artic loads of food, clothes, bedding, first aid are heading to help the people of Ukraine from the great people of the north west of Ireland.

"Thank to everyone who helped, sponsored or donated or gave in any way.

"Please remember the people of Ukraine in your thoughts and prayers."
