New garda dispatch system to be deployed first in north western region

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris to be questioned on new system at Joint Policing Committee meeting

It is anticipated that the Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris, will discuss the new garda dispatch system when he attends the Joint Policing Committee (JPC) this Monday, January 16.

An Garda Síochána, has for a number of years, operated a Regional Control Room strategy which ensures the most appropriate Garda resources are available to respond to calls for service from the public. Where a member of the public contacts 999 or contacts their local Garda station with a call for service this call is handled by the Regional Control Room, which ensures the most appropriate local resource is dispatched to assist the public supported by other resources as necessary.

A replacement project for CAD, CADII 'Garda Safe' is at very advanced stage and is due to be deployed incrementally across the garda organisation, commencing in the first half of 2023, in the garda north western region.

A garda press statement reads: "CADII will incorporate the latest control room technology, including mapping, mobile computing, automatic vehicle and person location, and digital radio and telephone integration. CADII has been designed and developed to provide better information leading to: better real-time decisions, more efficient and effective responses, richer collaboration, safer deployment of Garda resources and greater supervisory and management reporting tools."

An Garda Síochána will provide detailed information and specifications on the CADII 'Garda Safe' system and integrated Regional Control Room Strategy when the system goes live in 2023.
