The elections are officially underway in Punchestown, as the first count has been called for the Maynooth Electoral Area.
Naoise Ó Cearúil has become the first elected councillor in Co. Kildare, securing 1,880 votes. This was 314 votes above the quota.
Ó Cearúil was the only candidate to be elected in the first count for Maynooth LEA.
