Eugene McGuinness sealed the third seat in the Kilkenny City LEA earlier after polling 1,136 first preferences, benefited enough from transfers to land that third seat. Count 8 saw him pick up 27 more and surpass the quota.
Speaking to Kilkenny Live shortly after his election, Mr McGuinness thanked all his supporters throughout the campaign but revealed he has set his sights on the upcoming General Election.
Asked if he would be contesting, Mr McGuinness commented: "I think people need an independent voice in the centre of the city and there is absolutely no doubt I will be a candidate in the next General Election."
