A special tribute to the Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan by The Mary Wallopers was one of the highlights of the New Year's Eve annual celebration on BBC hosted by Jools Holland. Róisín Barrett, from Portlaoise, was on bass for the Irish band which was joined by another Pogue Spider Stacey in a rousing version of Streams of Whiskey.
Róisín Barret and co also performed The Holy Ground and the Bould O’Donoghue in a show-stopping performance on the famous show by the Dundalk-founded folk outfit inspired by the Pogues.
The Mary Wallopers have been busy gigging in the UK during December and are off to tour Australia in 2024 with the Portlaoise bass player a driving force in their success.
The Irish presence on the hugely popular annual show was bolstered by Muireann Bradley who stole the BBC show.
