WATCH: Mary Kennedy speaks to the Observer about the perks of Leitrim life

"It's a hidden gem in a way, Leitrim," said Mary Kennedy speaking to the Leitrim Observer at the vibrant and colourful market at Market Yard last week.

Mary is presenter of Moving West, a Six Part Series Showcasing Life in the West of Ireland which is in it's third series and is produced by Dundara Television and Media in association with the Western Development Commission.

Mary had big praise for Leitrim and spoke about how she visits the Wild Rose County often, sometimes to see her good friend Eleanor Shanley, who is a well known Irish Roots musician, from Keshcarrigan. "I love Leitrim. I have a very good friend, Eleanor. Actually her and her group have just released an album. She does a lot of work in The Dock and I come down to see her concerts. I've other friends here, Joe Dolan and his wife Rosie, who ran The Bush Hotel and I can come see them.

"There is just a lovely vibe in Leitrim. I've also come into Carrick on a cruiser with my partner as well as my brother and his wife and another couple. We always go away in the Autumn and sometimes would take a cruiser from Glasson up to the Shannon and come to Carrick and dock. There are so many nice places to eat, to have a drink, go for walks. I've done a few Nationwides here as well and the boardwalk is a wonderful amenity."
