PALLASGREEN’S inaugural Darkness into Light walk was launched in the shadow of Nicker hill with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
Organisers are taking up the baton from Murroe which has successfully run the event for a number of years in support of Pieta House.
There was a GAA theme to the launch, held above Nicker grotto, as there were representatives from local GAA clubs – Ita Richardson, Tony Breen, Geraldine Hickey, Murroe-Boher; Gillian Deere, Pallasgreen; Dan Quinn, Knockane; Bernie Ryan, Cappamore; Conor Ryan (M), Oola; Mike Gleeson, Kilteely-Dromkeen; Paddy McCarthy, Caherline and East Board chairman and PRO, Ger Lonergan and Declan Long.
The county scene was represented too, with senior hurler David Reidy announced as brand ambassador while Limerick kitman Ger O’Connell is one of the organisers.
David said he was “delighted” to be the ambassador and spoke of the importance of the work Pieta House does supporting people impacted by suicide and self-harm.
“Eighty percent of the funds that they need come from initiatives like Darkness into Light so it is fantastic to be able to support them. Hopefully we will see a big crowd,” said David, who hopes to take part.
“That’s the plan as we have a weekend off from Munster championship games so hopefully I will be able to come out to Pallasgreen,” said David, who urges people to take part at their nearest event.
It commences at 4.15am on May 6 at the astro pitch in Pallasgreen, onto Old Pallas, then Nicker grotto and back to the community centre.
Suzie O’Kelly, one of the organising committee, said they want to get as many people as possible, raise lots of funds for Pieta and “allow them to continue the amazing work they do”.
People can register at darknessintolight.ie or in person on Saturday, April 29 from 11am to 3pm at Lee’s Centra, Pallasgreen, main sponsors.
