WATCH: Limerick students look to the future after receiving Leaving Cert results

NOW that Leaving Cert results have been received by students across Limerick city and county, the next step is CAO offers and college places.

St. Clement's College in the city was a hive of activity this Friday as former students collected the all important envelope while first year students began their post-primary school education.

Shane Downey from Caherdavin was delighted with his results and shared his plans for the future: "I'm hoping to go to Mary I just around the corner to do Primary School teaching so hopefully with the way the results went this morning I should be able to do that".

Ethan McMahon from Raheen said "he ended up quite happy" with his results but came into school with an open mind as he prepares to further his education.

"My plan next is to go over to TUS over in Moylish and hopefully get a course, it's Renewable Energy and Electrical Engineering. There's so many new ways renewable energy can come into effect so I personally just want to find new ways to help the community," he told Limerick Leader/ Limerick Live.

The Leaving Cert Applied is also on offer at St Clement's and Aaron Richardson from Castletroy, who decided to go down that route, plans to do a course to help children with special needs through SNA (special needs assistant).

Speaking on the grounds of the school, Principal Pat Talty added: "They're delighted with their results and we are delighted for them. They are a unique group as in that they didn't get the opportunity to do the Junior Cert because of Covid-19 so this was their first state exam," he explained.

A total of 2,669 students sat the Leaving Certificate back in June and obtained their results today via an online portal as well as in physical form at their schools.
