BREAKING: 'I've a load of priorities still': Sharon Benson celebrates election in Limerick City West
Sinn Fein councillor bucks the party trend and hangs onto her seat
SHARON Benson has held onto her seat in City North in what has been a difficult election campaign for Sinn Fein.
She was elected on the last count, without reaching the quota, securing a vote of 1,439, and is likely to be the party's only candidate in the metropolitan district.
The Caherdavin woman, secretary of local TD Maurice Quinlivan, was first elected in the metropolitan district back in 2019.
She said: "It was a long campaign, a long last few days, but we got there in the end. I'm delighted, absolutely delighted."
"It's been a tough campaign for everyone by the sounds of it. I've a load of priorities still. I'm going to get my head back in the game. I still have a list of stuff to put through, so we'll be starting on those straight away. We have to get moving on things. As soon as the agenda comes out, we will have motions and questions on it. We will keep working away with housing," she said.
Cllr Benson ended up taking the fourth seat in City West, ahead of Aontu's Sarah Beasley and first-time Social Democrats councillor Shane Hickey-O'Mara.
The count in Limerick City North is now complete.
