THE Cook Medical Mini Marathon is returning this October 6 for its 26th year.
Last year saw 3,000 people run, walk and jog the 5k and 10k marathon to raise vital funds for charity.
This autumn will see thousands of runners take part in the race in the University of Limerick (UL) Sports Arena at 12 noon.
Over the last four years, the event raised almost €150,000 for local charities and organisers are hoping that this year’s all-inclusive race will beat last year's total of €35,000.
“We are hoping to push on numbers. We had 3,000 people last year and we are hoping to have similar numbers this year,” said John Cleary, race director.
“We have a target this year of surpassing our €40,000 charity fundraising goal for 2023 so if we can do that, it will be great and everyone will be a winner.”
Cook Medical has also announced at the launch that they will be continuing to sponsor the annual race until 2027.

Carla DiBenedetto of Cook Medical, who is race ambassador this year, said that “community spirit and enjoyment is paramount” each year and that they are “dedicated to fostering deep connections” within the community.
Additionally, Deputy Mayor Cllr Conor Sheehan is encouraging the people of Limerick to “lace up their runners” and “embrace this opportunity to make a difference to their health and some worthy local causes”.
“The Mini Marathon serves as a powerful fundraiser for numerous local charities that work tirelessly to improve the lives of those in need,” said Cllr Sheehan.
“In a world that often feels fast paced and demanding, it is important to make time to exercise and preparing for this Mini Marathon is a great step to take, as the format of 5k and 10k suits both seasoned runners and first timers, while helping those in need.”
St Gabriels and ADAPT House are just two Limerick charities which will be partnering with the race this year.
Registration is now open for those who wish to participate, with all proceeds going directly to charity.
