Little girl completes shopping trip on home-made sleigh amid snow chaos in Limerick village

'I had a few bits and bobs in shed and we needed to get there quickly'

A FAMILY living in a County Limerick village which has been impacted by heavy snowfall had heads turning this Sunday when they travelled to the local shop using a home-made sleigh.

Accompanied by her parents Tommy and Agi, Abigail Breen (4) travelled in style to Spar in Croom despite the treacherous underfoot conditions.

The family, who live on the outskirts of the village, needed to get some essentials from the store due to the bad weather but roads in-and-around the village are almost impassable due to accumulations of snow on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

"My wife is from Hungary and we have a sleigh there but we don't have one here," explained Tommy who had the responsibility of pulling his daughter in the home-made sleigh from their home on the outskirts of the village."

"I have bits and bobs in the shed and we decided we should come down to the shop and we needed to get there quickly. We couldn't use our bicycles so we decided we would make a sleigh in the shed really quick and it worked," he told Limerick Live.

Agi, who agreed the sleigh was a great way of bringing Abigail safely to the shop and back, revealed she is no stranger to snow.

"We have a lot more (snow) in Hungary, we are used to it and but I didn't think we needed it (their sleigh) here," she joked.
