THE FILM industry in Limerick, as a collective, has been awarded a Limerick Persons of the Month for bringing a major boost to the region in recent times.
Representatives from Troy Studios, Film in Limerick and crew members gathered to collect their award at the 8-acre Troy Studios site this Friday afternoon, where they are currently shooting US fantasy TV series, The Wayfinders.
Upon accepting the Persons of the Month award this Thursday in Casteltroy, regional manager of Film in Limerick, Paul C Ryan said: “It’s great!
“There’s been so much productions happening in recent times, and to be able to accept the award on behalf of all the Limerick film and TV crew that have come up through the ranks in the last number of years is fantastic.”

The tireless work that a whole host of groups within the film industry have done in terms of advocating and securing TV and film productions in Limerick and the Mid-West over the last five years has been immense.
Corroborating this, locations manager Sean Flynn said: “To echo what Paul said, it’s great accepting the award on behalf of all the industry in Limerick.
“The last five years we’ve had a great few years, it is growing and growing. This last year is the largest amount of output that we’ve ever produced.
“We’ve had local pilots, a movie being shot in Theatre Royal and the series The Wayfinders, which we hope will be going on for many years. We’ve had a range of productions and every time we do more, our crew base is building and our skill base is building.
“We get a huge amount of support from Limerick and the city, which is one of my favourite part of doing the job, is all the support we get.”
Preproduction of The Wayfinders is now underway, with the construction of the set progressing for season one of the series that follows a group of unlikely heroes on a quest of unity and power in a mythical and magical world.
Additionally, US game show Don’t Forget The Lyrics has just wrapped from shooting at Troy Studios, where over 400 extras flocked to the site each day for one month to join host Niecy Nash in cheering on contestants singing and recalling song lyrics in hopes of winning $1,000,000.
News broke this week that an international film lab will come to the ENGINE building in Cecil St, this July 7, where local producers and some from Scotland and Canada will come together to collaborate and create in the city.
Over the last two years, Film in Limerick and local TV crews also had the opportunity to work with Liam Neeson for upcoming movie 4 Kids Walk into a Bank and US box-office hit movie Bonhoeffer in Limerick and the Mid-West.
