A video has appeared on social media yesterday evening appearing to show a group of youths kicking at the door of a premises on Francis Street in Dundalk which has the words: “DDK SAYS NO” spray-painted on the front.
It comes as a tense standoff occurred on Sunday between protesters and counter protesters at the former St. Joseph's female orphanage and Industrial School and St. Malachy's Convent at Seatown where 260 Ukrainians are expected to be housed.
When the Dundalk Democrat/Louth Live asked the gardai about the incident in the video a garda spokesperson stated: “An Garda Síochána do not comment on third party social media content.”
However, gardaí confirmed they received a report of an incident of criminal damage that occurred on Francis Street in Dundalk, at approximately 5pm on Tuesday evening.
A Garda spokesperson, in a statement, said: “Gardaí received a report of an incident of criminal damage that occurred on Francis Street in Dundalk, Co. Louth at approximately 5pm on Tuesday, 23rd of July 2024.
“Investigations are ongoing at this time.”
