Thurles councillors urge changes to council rent scheme

Thurles councillors expressed concerns about the inclusion of two social welfare payments in the calculation of council rent. Family income supplement and carers allowance are currently counted. 

At this month's district council meeting, Cllrs Jim Ryan and Seamus Hanafin the inclusion of the two payments was unfair 

But council officials say they have no plans to change the scheme.

Thurles CBS has announced the development of their first ASD class. Principal Tiernan O’Donnell said the new class will help the school better serve the community. 

It is expected to open this September.

Tipperary gardaí issue warning to pet owners following another dog attack on sheep

Gardai are asking owners to mind their dogs. This comes after another sheep attack earlier this month. 

Sheep worrying was also a concern raised at this month’s Tipperary County Council meeting. As was dog fouling. 

Director of services for the environment section Eamon Lonergan said personal responsibility is key to solving both issues.

‘TIPP TOURISM RISING: Thurles tourist office is developing into a key hub for visitors to the county

And finally, the Thurles Tourist Office held its first coffee morning. Groups, businesses and members of the public were invited to the event. 

The tourist office which opened in 2021 promotes all things Thurles and the surrounding areas. 

It's well worth a visit!
