WATCH: Eliminated Tipperary South Labour candidate says he is disappointed but will be back

Cllr Michael 'Chicken' Brennan gives his reaction to his performance in his first General Election campaign

Labour Party Tipperary South candidate Michael 'Chicken' Brennan has been eliminated after the second count, announced at 10.50am, having polled 1,731 first preferences and achieving a total vote of 1,970.

The third count, which is the distribution of Cllr Brennan's 1,970 votes and Mattie McGrath's surplus of 322 votes, has now begun.

Cllr Brennan said he was disappointed not to be in contention for a seat but not disappointed he contested the election. He said he had learned a lot from the experience of his first General Election campaign.

The Killenaule man, who was only elected to Tipperary County Council for the first time in June, thanked his campaign team and all who voted for him and supported him in anyway during the campaign.

Cllr Brennan said he and his team didn't have much experience in running a General Election campaign and looking back there were things they would have done differently.

He said they would be learning from the contest and promised to be ready for the next General Election.
