A few miserable days are on the cards

Met Eireann is forecasting thunderstorm showers for Galway and the rest of Ireland across Wednesday and Thursday before a return to 23C sunshine on Friday.

Wednesday will be mild in the morning remaining rather dull and damp too as patchy outbreaks of rain hit.

Sunny spells will gradually break through but will be overlooked by heavy and thundery showers despite temperatures being around 18-23C.

These thundery bursts will clear by night time with mostly dry weather following but some areas will have mist and fog setting in as temperatures fall back to about 12C.

Here’s how the rest of the week is looking according to Met Eireann:

Overview: “Unsettled with rain or showers, heavy or thundery at times.”

Tomorrow: “Thursday will start off dry in many areas. Rain across southern fringes will slowly extend to eastern and southern counties, heavy at times with the chance of thunderstorms and the potential for surface flooding. Drier and warmer across west and northwest counties with some sunny spells but the odd thundery shower may occur too. Highest temperatures of 18 to 24 degrees with mostly light northeast or variable breezes.”

Thursday night: “Scattered outbreaks of rain will affect the country, locally heavy and thundery with the potential for some thunderstorms. However, it will likely become drier across the western half of the country. Patches of mist or fog may form in light variable mainly westerly breezes. Lowest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees.”

Friday: “This will bring a mix of bright or sunny spells and scattered showers, some heavy and thundery, especially across Ulster during the afternoon and evening. Rather warm with highest temperatures of 18 to 23 degrees, warmest in the southeast with light to moderate northwest breezes. Dry for a time on Friday night, before wet weather arrives to the southwest and moves up much of the southern half of the country by morning.”
