The summer could well be on the way out

Met Eireann is forecasting that thunderstorms are heading for Ireland on Wednesday with the west and especially Galway expected to be hit by the worst of it.

The National Forecaster is predicting that today will be mostly cloudy and dry with the odd isolated shower.

Sunny spells will develop as the morning goes on but thick cloud will stop us from seeing the best of it.

Temperatures can reach highs of 21C with persistent rain and drizzle from the evening into the night where temperatures will drop to a decent 11C.

Here is the weather forecast update from Met Eireann for the rest of the week:

Overview: “Breezy at first with widespread showers. Becoming brighter and drier from Friday onwards with occasional showers. Fresher than recently with daytime temperatures in the mid to high teens.”

Tomorrow: “On Wednesday morning, showers will become widespread. The showers will be heavy in places with possible thunderstorms, before they become more scattered late in the evening. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in moderate, occasionally fresh, west to southwest winds.”

Wednesday night: “Some heavy showers at first but these will ease and become less frequent overnight with clear spells also. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in moderate northerly winds, fresh near coasts.”

Thursday night: “Dry for many with clear spells and isolated light showers, mainly in the north. A cooler night with lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with northerly winds decreasing light to moderate early on.”
