Met Eireann has forecast the peak of the current heatwave in Ireland with temperatures hitting 30C two days in a row.

Today and tomorrow will see the dial hit those dizzy heights before temperatures start to slowly decline again.

The national forecaster currently has a high temperature warning in place for Galway as well as the rest of Connacht, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Donegal and Munster.

This alert has been issued until 6am Friday morning with a weather advisory ongoing until 6am Saturday.

After Saturday, Met Eireann suggest that things may start to take a more normal change as a “cooler airflow” hits the country.

Looking at Wednesday and it will be mostly dry, sunny and very warm.

The odd area might see one or two isolated showers but for the majority it will be clear skies and 30C temperatures.

Here is what Met Eireann is forecasting for the remainder of the week:

Tonight: “Another dry and mild night with long clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees in light northerly or variable winds.”

Thursday: “Another very warm day tomorrow. There is a chance of isolated showers in the southwest, but otherwise it will be dry and sunny.

Highest temperatures of 24 to 30 degrees, but not as warm near some northern coasts due to a light to moderate north to northeast breeze and possibly some coastal fog.”

Friday: “Most areas dry, sunny and warm or very warm with temperatures reaching 23 to 28 degrees. Some cloud will affect the north and northwest, keeping highest temperatures here around 17 to 20 degrees, in a light to moderate northerly wind.”
