Gardaí looking for 'car of interest' after Galway town incident

Elsewhere, Gort Gardai are also investigating a criminal damage case
Gardaí are asking people to share any information or footage they may have as they track down a ‘car of interest’ after a burglary incident in a Galway town this week.
Ballinasloe gardaí are probing the incident which took place between the hours of 1pm and 4pm on Monday, June 29 at Abbeygormican in Kiltormer.
Gardaí told Galway Live that after the house was broken into, ‘a black car of interest’ was observed parked near the property but sadly they were unable to identify a make or model as of yet.
Officers at the Garda Station are hoping someone who may have been in the area or who may have witnessed any suspicious activity and have footage to contact them on (090) 9631890 or the Garda confidential line on 1800666111.
Elsewhere, Gort Gardaí are investigating a criminal damage case after a car was set alight and extensively damaged on June 21.
The incident took place at Ballyboy Crossroads in Ardrahan, county Galway at around 11.40pm, where an Opel Astra Estate was the targeted vehicle.
Officers in Gort are looking to speak to anyone with any information on their confidential line, or at Gort Garda Station on (091) 636400.
This week, gardai are also reminding people that e scooters must not be used by anyone under the age of 16.
Anyone operating an e scooter must:
- Obey a speed limit of 20km/h.
- Drive on the left. E-scooters are allowed in cycle or bus lanes and on local roads but not on footpaths.
- Have lights, a bell or audible warning device, reflectors and brakes on their e-scooter and it must be kept in a roadworthy condition at all times.
- Not hold or use a mobile phone.
- Not use an E-Scoter whilst intoxicated.
- Not have a seat on their e-scooter.
- Not carry passengers or goods.
- Obey signals given by a Garda or school warden and follow the same rules of the road that apply to cyclists, including traffic lights, road signs, and all types of pedestrian crossings.
Anyone who is found to be in breach of this legislation can and will have their e scooters seized by gardai.
A spokesman for gardaí told Galway Live: ‘According to the RSA, E-scooter-related brain injuries now account for over 25% of paediatric neurosurgical admissions at Temple Street over the past year.
‘Around half of these children required intensive care, and almost half underwent emergency neurosurgery, with some left with permanent disabilities.
‘An Garda Síochána are appealing to parents and guardian’s to ensure that their children do not have access to E Scooters and even if using them at home to ensure that the necessary safety equipment such as safety helmets etc. are always used.’
