HSE apologises to patients after "issue" closed University Hospital Galway kitchen for three days

The HSE has apologised for the disruption to staff and patients’ meals at University Hospital Galway due to an ‘issue’ with its kitchen last weekend.
UHG confirmed to the Galway City Tribune that its main food production kitchen and staff restaurant were closed for three days last weekend “due to an issue”.
A spokesperson declined to elaborate on what the issue was but both kitchens were “fully operational again” by Monday, July 13.
Family members of patients in UHG had contacted the Tribune about the disruption to meals for patients.
“The only impact of the closures on patients was that hot meals which would normally be served during the day, were served in the evening. Likewise lunch/sandwiches which are normally served in the evening, were instead served during the day.
“Food service to patients at UHG has now returned to normal, with hot meals served in the middle of the day, followed by evening tea,” a spokesperson said.
The HSE said there was no impact on food services at Merlin Park University Hospital.
“The HSE would like to apologies again for any inconvenience caused by the temporary disruption to catering operations at UHG,” it said in a statement.
