New Galway city housing development planned
Plans are underway to build a new housing development for Galway city.
Thirty nine homes are hoped to be built by Kenny Developments in land at Circular Road consisting first of 22 own-door apartments between two duplex building blocks.
Block one will be three stories with five, two bedroom ground floor apartments; 1 two-bedroom upper-floor apartment and 5 three-bedroom upper-floor apartments.
Block two will have 5 two-bedroom ground-floor apartments and 6 two-bedroom upper-floor apartments.
Kenny Development hopes to build a further 17 houses with a mix of three and four bedrooms.
There is also planned accessible parking, electric vehicle charging spaces and a planned play area on the open green.
Planning was submitted on June 25 with a decision being set for August 19.
In other building news, a state of the art 345 bed student accommodation development for Galway city will officially open for college goers this year.
Elkstone alongside COADY Architects confirmed that eight-storey Queen Street Place will be ready for students in September and will be operated by the UK company Mezzino.
Joe Bergin who is the chief executive of Elkstone said the opening would be a ’direct response’ to the shortage of student accommodation available in Ireland.
He said: ‘Delivering 345 purpose-built student homes in the heart of Galway is a proud moment for Elkstone.’
The complex will include a gym and fitness studio as well as rooftop terraces, study rooms and even a cinema room alongside 24 hour security.
The company said Queen Street Place will ‘play a meaningful role in relieving pressure from the student bed deficit and housing crisis’ and that ‘student accommodation sits at the acute end of that shortage.’
A second Elkstone project for student accommodation is also underway with a further 240 beds set to be delivered in September 2027.
