People around Galway urged wear green on Thursday to remember Liz Kavanagh O'Malley

The walk takes place on what would have been Liz's birthday
The Connacht Hospitality Group is inviting the public to take part in this year's Walk in Green, a special fundraising event in aid of Galway Hospice, taking place on Thursday, 13th August, beginning at Blackrock Tower in Salthill.
The annual walk is one of a number of fundraising initiatives organised by the Connacht Hospitality Group in support of Galway Hospice. This year's event carries particular significance as it will be held in memory of Liz Kavanagh O'Malley, the late wife of Kieran O'Malley, who passed away in the loving care of the dedicated team at Galway Hospice in May of this year.
The walk takes place on what would have been Liz's birthday, creating a meaningful opportunity for colleagues from across the Connacht Hospitality Group, along with Liz's family and friends, to come together to celebrate her life while raising vital funds for a charity that provides outstanding care and compassion to so many families across the west of Ireland.
Speaking ahead of the event, Kieran O'Malley expressed his appreciation for the gesture from his colleagues.
He said: "It is such a wonderful and thoughtful gesture from everyone in the Connacht Hospitality Group to dedicate this year's Walk in Green to Liz's memory. It means so much to me and to our families that people are coming together on what would have been her birthday to celebrate her life while supporting a cause that was there for us when we needed it most."
He continued: "Having experienced first hand the incredible kindness, dignity and compassion shown by every member of staff at Galway Hospice, I know just how important their work is. They provided outstanding care, not only for Liz but for all of us as a family, and I will always be grateful. It is so important that Galway Hospice receives the support it deserves so they can continue to provide that same level of care to other families facing the most difficult times of their lives.
"Following the walk, participants are invited to gather in M. Fitzgerald's Bar on Quay Street for light refreshments. The venue holds special significance for Kieran and Liz's family, as it was the last place Liz enjoyed a meal out before later requiring a nasogastric tube for nutrition during her illness, making it a fitting place for family, friends and colleagues to come together to share memories and celebrate her life.
