RIP: Galway school's heartbreaking tribute to staff member who was 'mammy of the school'

Often referred to as the ‘mammy’ of the school, she looked after everyone, staff and students alike, with such kindness and gentleness
A Galway school has paid a heartbreaking tribute to a staff member who was the 'mammy of the school'.
Scoil Bhríde paid tribute to Helen Conneely after the loved local was laid to rest over the weekend.
Helen was buried on Saturday in Rahoon Cemetery with the funeral cortege passing her home in Corrib Park on the way to the Cemetery.
The school remembered Helen as a “unique and truly special human” who touched the lives of every colleague and past pupil who had graced the doors of the school.
Scoil Bhríde said: “It is with great sadness that Scoil Bhríde notes the passing of Helen Conneely on Tuesday, September 15th.
“Helen was a beloved member of the Scoil Bhríde staff and community for almost 25 years. Often referred to as the ‘mammy’ of the school, she looked after everyone, staff and students alike, with such kindness and gentleness.
“She was truly special and unique. Helen will be remembered by colleagues, past pupils and the wider Scoil Bhríde community for her lifelong commitment to the wellbeing of the children and staff in her care. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. May she rest in peace.”
Tributes came in far and wide for Helen.
One close friend said: “Deepest sympathy to her husband Joe, and family on the sad death of your beloved Helen. A truly dedicated lady who treated everyone she met with dignity, compassion and love. She cared for so many students in Scoil Bhride, Shantalla over the years in her role as a devoted care assistant. Her joy and good humour in that role showed her true Christian values. We were all privileged to have known and worked with Helen. May her gentle soul Rest in Peace.”
Another added: :Very sorry to learn that Helen has died RIP. It is evident from the many tributes paid to her in that she was a much admired and popular woman. This doesn’t surprise me as she came from a very much respected family in the O’Sheas of Cummane Glenbeigh. Her brother Denis was a very good friend of mine. A niece of Ann’s worked with Helen in Sc Bhríde and she always spoke very highly of her. We know she will be greatly missed by you, her family and her large circle of friends and work colleagues. We send our deepest sympathies to you all on this sad occasion. Go raibh leaba I measc na Naomh aici.”
