Agatha O’Connor

Newcastle-on-Tyne and Clare Island

The death has taken place at her home on Clare Island of Mrs Agatha O’Connor, Strake, a much-loved member of the island community since she moved there in the early nineties.

Formerly Agatha Boyd, she was a native of Newcastle-on-Tyne, England and was predeceased by her husband Jim.

She was aged 85 years and was a retired teacher.

Agatha had a huge love for Clare Island and its people and when retirement came in the teaching profession she resolved to spend the rest of her life there among the people she held in such great affection and who reciprocated that affection to her.

She will be very sadly missed by her daughter Patricia (Middlesex, England), her brother Joe Boyd (England), son-in-law, grandchidren, nephews, niecs, cousins and a wide circle of friends.

Following repose at the family home on Clare Island removal took place to the island’s Sacred Heart Church where Fr Francis Mitchell officiated at the reception ceremony.

Fr Mitchell was also celebrant of her Requiem Mass in which family members and friends participated.

She was laid to rest in the island cemetery. Peace to her gentle soul. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis.
