Irving Moore, a Ballina man, has been recognised for his dedication to providing safe and reliable school transport, with colleagues praising his caring and dependable approach to his work.

Bus Éireann has recognised Ballina man Irving Moore as School Bus Driver of the Year in the West at the 2026 GEM Awards.

The award celebrates Irving’s conscientious approach to his work, his care for pupils and his commitment to providing safe and reliable school transport.

Described by colleagues as a caring and dependable driver, Irving takes great pride in his role and goes above and beyond to look after the children travelling on his service. He makes an effort to know his pupils, remain attentive to their individual needs and ensure services to his school centre operate as planned.

Safety, respect and diligence are at the heart of his approach, with the welfare of pupils always his priority.

His commitment is also reflected in his forward planning. By obtaining his pupil list a week before children return to school, Irving ensures he is well prepared for the new academic year and that new pupils are accounted for.

Miriam Flynn, Chief Schools Officer at Bus Éireann, praised Irving’s dedication.

“Irving demonstrates the care and responsibility that are so important in school transport. He knows his pupils, puts their safety first and takes practical steps to ensure his services run as planned. His forward-thinking approach and pride in his work make him a very deserving recipient of this award,” she said.

The award recognises Irving’s dedication to the pupils he transports and the high standards he brings to his role every day.
