Former Mayo footballer and current AFL player Oisín Mullin confirmed that he spoke with Mayo manager Andy Moran about returning to the county set-up ahead of the recent All-Ireland final.

Mullin, who previously wore the green and red in the 2020 and 2021 All Ireland Finals has been overseas in Australia while he has been playing AFL for Geelong. Ahead of Geelong's meeting with Collingwood, the Kilmaine native told Australia's Channel 7 that there had been a conversation regarding Mayo’s All Ireland Final clash with Kerry.

“I did have a chat with the coach back home and obviously Chris (Scott) here. In the off-season, Geelong gave me an extended period at home and I was fortunate that Mayo let me join them to train in the off-season as well, so there was that connection there. The coach just touched base with me from home and had a chat with Scotty, but the circumstances around where we are in the ladder here and the time of season, it just didn't work out. I was just excited watching on from here and see the boys get the result and get it done.”

The former Young Footballer of The Year also gave his thoughts on Mayo’s big win. “It was massive. It's been 75 years since they've won it. There's been so many finals that Mayo have played in and not managed to get over the line. To finally get it done, the whole county has gone into lockdown. The celebrations are off the charts, it looks unbelievable.”

Mullin previously represented the Mayo U-20 group when Andy Moran was involved as a coach in 2020 and in late 2025, Mullin enjoyed a stint with Mayo as he trained with the county while the AFL enjoyed the off-season.
