HSE reminds Mayo public their healthcare options this August bank holiday

People are encouraged to use GPs, pharmacies and injury units where appropriate as hospitals prepare for increased demand
The HSE is urging people in Mayo to know the healthcare services available over the August Bank Holiday weekend, as hospitals across the region prepare for increased demand.
HSE West and North West said bank holiday weekends, combined with the recent spell of good weather, typically place extra pressure on emergency departments, so patients are advised to consider alternative care options where appropriate.
The HSE is encouraging people to use Westdoc GP Out-of-Hours services, community pharmacies and injury units for non-life-threatening conditions where suitable.
Community pharmacists can provide advice and treatment for a range of common illnesses.
Roscommon Injury Unit, which is open from 8am to 8pm every day including bank holidays, can treat injuries such as fractures, sprains, wounds and minor burns without an appointment.
With many people expected to spend time outdoors over the long weekend, the HSE is also reminding the public to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and limit time in direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day.
The HSE stressed that anyone experiencing a serious illness or medical emergency should not delay attending their nearest emergency department or calling 999 or 112.
