John Caulfield
Shanwalla, Tooreen
JOHN Caulfield, Shanwalla, Tooreen, died peacefully in Swinford District Hospital last week. He was in his early 80s and was the last of his generation of the Caulfield family.
In his younger years John was involved in the building trade but spent most of his life farming back home in Tooreen. He was a capable man at whatever he turned his hand to and was well liked and highly regarded in the district.
John loved a good debate and discussion. He was a man of independent thought and would always defend his corner with fine mental strength and clarity.
John will be sadly missed by all who knew him around the area. The community tenders condolences to the Caulfield family on their bereavement.
Removal took place from Donnellan’s Funeral Home in Ballyhaunis to Tooreen Church with interment in Friary Cemetery in Ballyhaunis after Requiem Mass celebrated by Canon James Kelly.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Queenie), sons Michael and Seamus, daughters Mary, Imelda, Ann and Stella, in-laws, grandchildren, relatives, neighbours and friends.
