Maggie Gavin

Reddich and Erriff, Cushlough

The recent death has taken place of Maggie Gavin (nee Hastings), Reddich and formerly of Erriff. She was aged 88 years and was daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget Hastings. Maggie emigrated to England in the 40’s where she married her husband Peter Gavin and reared a family of seven. She was predeceased by her husband Peter, son Joe and daughter Margaret.

Maggie was a regular visitor to Erriff. She travelled there every year to see her family and friends and a visit to Knock Shrine was always a must. She will be sadly missed by her family, sons Patrick, Michael and Paul, daughters Theresa and Eileen, brothers Dan (Liverpool), Tommie (Reading), Michael (Banbury), Philip (Erriff) and sister Julia McGovern (Liscarney), sisters-in-law Rose Hastings, June Hastings, Maureen Hastings, Ann Hastings and Peggie Gavin, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

Removal took place from the funeral home in Reddich to the Church of Mount Carmel where many of her family and friends from England and Ireland met her remains. Fr Eddie Clare was the chief celebrant of her Funeral Mass assisted by Fr Bob Wright. Family members read the lessons and prayers of the faithful and brought up the offertory gifts, with the final hymn being a rendition of Our Lady of Knock.

Maggie was laid to rest with her husband Peter in Abbey Cemetery, Reddich. May she rest in peace.

Month’s Mind Mass on Friday, October 21 at 7.00pm in Cushlough Church of The Sacred Heart.
