Mary O’Malley, Main Street, Louisburgh

The death took place peacefully on May 23, 2009, of Mrs Mary O’Malley, Main Street, Louisburgh. Formerly Mary Prendergast, Accony, she was wife of the late Tommie Joe O’Malley, Main Street.

News of her passing, although not unexpected, evoked much sadness throughout the community in which she was held in high regard.

Devoted to her family and their welfare, Mary was, nevertheless, always available to friend and neighbour with an attentive ear and kindly words and deeds. She was a member of the local Apostolic Workers’ Society and was respected and appreciated for her contributions, particularly her knitting skills.

Predeceased by her husband in May 1974, and her son, John, in 2006, she is deeply mourned by her daughters, Merci Kilcoyne (Kilsallagh) and Norita O’Malley (London); sons, Peter (Louisburgh), Richard (Dublin), Gerard (London) and Jim (Louisburgh); brothers, Richie, Paddy and Eddie Prendergast; sisters, Sr Bridget, Sal and Nora; sons-in-law and daughters-in-law; grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law; nephews and nieces; cousins; relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

The large cortege which accompanied her removal from Sweeney’s Funeral Home to St Patrick’s Church, Louisburgh, included representatives of all sections of the Louisburgh community and further afield.

The reception ceremony was performed by Rev Richard Gibbons (Knock), cousin of the deceased.

Fr Richard was the chief celebrant of her Funeral Mass and other concelebrants were Rev Fr Mattie Long, PP Louisburgh;
