Mary Tully,
Tulrahan
Mary Tully, Tulrahan. THE death took place recently of Mary Tully, Culnacartha, Tulrahan. She was formerly Mary Naughton from Carramore, Cloonfad and was known affectionately to many of her friends as Maimie. Mary was one of a family of nine and was a twin sister of Margaret Burke in Cloonfad. She was predeceased by her husband Batty back in 1974.
One of the grand ‘old stock’ of the district, she resided with her son Jimmy and his wife Ann and family where she received the very best of care and kindness.
Herself and Batty were country people with a fondness for the land and the rural way of life. They raised a family of three, two daughters and a son. Matters relating to the land were always of special interest to Mary. Like so many of her generation, she worked on the farm and taking care of the home.
Mary was a gentle person whose pleasant nature endeared her to many. She was happy and content among her own people and loved the quietness and peace of Culnacartha.
Eleven years ago, her daughter Mary died suddenly and it was a great shock to all the family. Mary was married to Michael Commerton in Carrick-on-Shannon and they had a family of four. Her passing at such a young age was indeed a heavy loss for all the family.
Her strong faith was a source of constant consolation to her and she was a devout Christian lady who attended church and the sacraments on a very regular basis while she could. Though in declining health for sometime, Mary retained her interest in things that were happening around the place and always loved the see the grandchildren call around. She had a great rapport with them and they will all retain the fondest of memories of a very gentle soul.
Removal took place from Keane’s Funeral Home in Cloonfad to Logboy Church with burial in Tulrahan cemetery following Requiem Mass celebrated by Fr Paddy Mullins, PP.
She is survived by her son Jimmy (Culnacartha) and daughter Helen (Carrowkeel, Ballyhaunis), daughter-in-law Ann, sons-in-law Sean Biesty (Carrowkeel) and Michael Commerton (Carrick-on-Shannon), nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, her sister Margaret Burke (Cloonfad) and brother Ted Naughton (Wembley, London), nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
