Mayo solar company Moy Solar opens new town-centre office

Family-owned business doubles its team and expands into Sligo as demand for solar grows across Mayo and the West
Ballina-based solar energy company Moy Solar has opened a new office on Bachelors Walk, as it continues to expand across Mayo and the West.
The new office marks another step forward for the family-owned company, which has doubled its team during 2026 and expanded its operations into Sligo as demand for solar continues to grow.
Founded by Ballina brothers Shane and Brian Walkin, Moy Solar aims to make renewable energy more accessible to homes and businesses across the region.
The company provides customers with a free home visit, where a solar energy consultant assesses the property and designs a system before a quotation is provided. The new office now gives customers an additional opportunity to ask questions and discuss their options in person.
Shane Walkin, co-founder and managing director of Moy Solar, said the company wanted to retain a strong local connection as it expands.
“We’re from Ballina, we employ locally and we’ve always wanted Moy Solar to feel like a local company people can actually talk to,” he said.
“Solar is a big decision for a household. You’re putting a system on the roof over your family’s head and wiring it into the mains of the house, so it’s only right that people take their time and ask plenty of questions before they choose who does it.”
He said the new office would allow customers to call in and get answers on issues including grants, payment schedules and how solar systems work.
The expansion comes amid continued growth in solar energy nationally. More than 102,000 Irish homes have received grant support for solar since the SEAI scheme began in 2018, with Mayo among the counties recording more than 1,000 grant-aided installations in 2025.
Moy Solar said its vans are now regularly travelling to installations across Mayo, Sligo and neighbouring counties, while the company is also growing its sales team.
“2026 has been a really positive year for us,” Mr Walkin said. “We’ve doubled the team, we’re installing in more homes and businesses across the region and we’re adding to our sales team so we can look after everyone who’s getting in touch.”
He said referrals from existing customers had become a significant source of new business.
Moy Solar installs solar PV systems for homes and businesses and manages much of the process for customers, from initial site assessment and system design through to installation and SEAI grant paperwork.
The company said the new Ballina office reflects its intention to maintain a local relationship with customers as the business continues to grow.
“We want people to know there are real people behind Moy Solar,” Mr Walkin said. “If you’ve been thinking about solar for six months and have several questions, come in and ask. That’s what we’re here for.”
