The Kilmaine man and his team-mates face a huge clash with table toppers Fremantle in the AFL semi-final next weekend

Mayo's latest AFL recruit Kobe McDonald may be back in his native Crossmolina for a Mayo senior football clash with Mayo Gaels this weekend, but for his fellow county man Oisin Mullin, it was business as usual at the MCG on Friday night.

The Kilmaine man and his side are through now to the last six of this season AFL's championship after a big win over local Melbourne rivals Carlton in front of a full-house at the MCG. The final score was 107 to 74.

Mullin again received much praise for his performance as he snuffed out the challenge of one of the up and coming young players of Aussie Rules, Jagga Smith of Carlton.

The prize now for Mullin and his team-mates is a trip to the West Coast to take on the Fremantle Dockers in the semi-final next weekend.

The Dockers easily topped the end of the season ladder but they saw their unbeaten home record come to an end this weekend when Hawthorn travelled to Perth and pulled off a famous 70 points to 40 victory.

The upshot of all this is that Hawthorn now advance to the Preliminary Finals while the Dockers take on Mullin and Geelong in a mouthwatering clash next weekend.

Geelong actually defeated the Dockers back in the very first game of the season back in March but the Perth based side went on to record just three more defeats in the 23 game regular season.

Some of Oisin Mullin's team-mates in Kilmaine may have secretly being shouting for Carlton at the weekend as a defeat for Geelong would likely have meant that Mullin may have been free to play for his native village in the knock-out stages of the Mayo Intermediate football championship.

Kilmaine will advance to the quarter-finals if they can overcome Islandeady in Cong this afternoon at 4pm.

The rest of the calendar in the AFL season, will see the semi-final takes place next weekend between Geelong and Fremantle and the Brisbane Lions and Adelaide Crows. The winner of the Geelong game will then face the Sydney Swans while winners of the other semi will face Hawthorn. This year's AFL Grand Final is pencilled in for Saturday, September 26.

Mullin still has a chance to play for Kilmaine this season. If they beat Islandeady this afternoon, they will play in the quarter finals on the weekend of September 19/20. The semis are likely to take place on the weekend of October 3/4 and the Intermediate final should take place on the weeknd of October 17/18.

So Oisin Mullin fans both at home and in Australia still have plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks.
