Minister Dillon welcomes Housing Infrastructure boost for west Mayo

Minister Alan Dillion has today welcomed the inclusion of a key Westport project under the Government’s €1 billion Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund (HIIF), describing it as a major step forward in unlocking housing delivery in Mayo.

The project at Lodge Road / Monamore, with an investment of approximately €1 million, will deliver infrastructure including road upgrades, footpaths, public lighting, and active travel measures.

Planned works include the upgrade of approximately 900 metres of roadway, installation of new public lighting, and drainage improvements.

Minister Alan Dillon stated that the announcement is very welcome and significant for Westport and for the wider Mayo region.

“This investment goes to the heart of the housing challenge, unlocking land that is ready to go but has been held back by missing infrastructure.

He further stated that funding now provides certainty and clears the way for homes to be delivered at Lodge Road and Monamore.

“We have strong demand, committed interest from developers, and land with real potential. What was missing was safe access and connectivity,” he added.

The minister also outlined that separate infrastructure projects are underway in the town, including upgrades to the water treatment plant by Uisce Éireann and investment in electricity network improvements by ESB Networks.

“I want to acknowledge my colleague Councillor Peter Flynn for his determination in progressing this project, and Mayo County Council for bringing forward a strong and successful application,” he added.

The Mayo TD concluded by describing the fund as a new approach to supporting housing delivery and encouraged other towns in Mayo to consider bringing forward similar proposals in future funding rounds.
