Overcrowding on the rise at Mayo University Hospital

The figures come as MUH warned of long waiting times in the Emergency Department.
Newly released figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) show that 29 patients at Mayo University Hospital are currently waiting for a bed.
Of those, 11 patients are waiting in the Emergency Department, while a further 18 admitted patients are awaiting beds elsewhere in the hospital.
Nationally, 553 admitted patients are waiting for beds across the country. This includes 321 patients waiting in Emergency Departments, while 212 are awaiting beds elsewhere in hospitals.
The figures come after Mayo University Hospital warned yesterday of extreme pressure and lengthy waiting times in its Emergency Department.
The hospital said large numbers of people were attending the Emergency Department, with many requiring admission for ongoing treatment.
