Public invited to water quality meeting in Claremorris

The meeting, organised by the Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO), will take place on Tuesday, July 14.
Residents, community groups, and stakeholders across the Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District are being encouraged to attend a public information meeting on local water quality next month.
The meeting, organised by the Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO), will take place on Tuesday, July 14, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris.
LAWPRO, which works on behalf of Ireland's 31 local authorities to protect and restore the quality of rivers, lakes, estuaries, groundwater, and coastal waters, is hosting the event to update the public on efforts to improve water quality in the district and outline plans under the new Water Action Plan.
The programme works in Priority Areas for Action (PAAs), where targeted measures are being implemented to protect or restore water quality in partnership with local communities, public bodies, landowners, and other stakeholders.
The meeting will provide an overview of work completed during the second cycle of the Water Action Plan and outline priorities for the third cycle. Members of the public will also have the opportunity to ask questions and speak with representatives from the Agricultural Sustainability Support and Advisory Programme (ASSAP).
Anthony Coleman, Director of Services with LAWPRO, said the meeting offers an opportunity for local people to learn more about the health of their local rivers and catchments.
"As we are coming to the end of the second cycle of work in the Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District area and begin implementation of the new Water Action Plan, we would like to welcome members of the public to come along and find out more about what's happening in their local waterbodies and river catchments.
"We hope to engage as many people as possible because public participation and support are key to achieving water quality improvements. We would also like to thank everyone, whether working in a voluntary or professional capacity, who is helping to protect our natural waters and the biodiversity that depends on them."
Those wishing to attend are encouraged to register in advance through the LAWPRO Eventbrite page. Further information on the work of the Local Authority Waters Programme is available at www.lawaters.ie.
