Red Cross response continues in Haiti
As the millions of people affected by the earthquake in Haiti are coping with the devastation of the disaster over a week later, Red Cross teams working on the ground in Haiti report steady progress.
To date, Red Cross volunteers and specialists have set up three field hospitals and six mobile clinics in the centre of the devastation which are each caring for 200 patients per day, as well as delivering almost one million litres of clean water to the people of Haiti on a daily basis.
Noel Wardick, Head of the International Department, Irish Red Cross explains, “At the moment our main priorities are treatment of the injured, collection of mortal remains, and water and sanitation, as well as starting work on waste management and water systems.”
In response to the Irish Red Cross Haiti Appeal, Starbucks Coffee Company will launch an in-store collection nationwide where members of the public will be asked whether they would like to give money to the appeal when they pay at the till.
Post Bank has also opened a dedicated Irish Red Cross account so that the Irish public can give through hundreds of branches nationwide. For further information log onto www.postbank.ie
The Irish Red Cross would like to thank the Irish public for their continuous generosity, and all of the companies who have taken the step to get involved and help the people of Haiti in any way they can.
Donations to the Irish Red Cross Haiti Appeal are still needed. Please give what you can and donate online at www.redcross.ie or by calling 1850 50 70 70.
