A total of 91 participants crossed the 5km finish line, and organisers were encouraged by the size of the field. The committee hopes to build on this year’s success and welcome an even larger field in 2027.

The annual Carrowholly 5K enjoyed ideal running conditions on Sunday June 14, with sunshine, a light breeze and spectacular views of Croagh Patrick providing the backdrop for another successful community event.

A strong field of runners took to the quiet country roads around Carrowholly, with participants enjoying a scenic route lined with grass, trees and stunning views stretching towards the sea. The event attracted athletes from across the region and produced some excellent performances.

In the women's race, Julie Bradshaw of Galway City Harriers claimed first place in an impressive 18:54. Continuing her outstanding season, Laura Langan of Westport AC secured second place in 19:53, while Mayo AC's Sarah Byrne, a familiar face on Mayo roads, finished third in 20:27.

The men's race produced a thrilling finish, with Bryan Renton and Shaun McLaughlin locked in an epic battle right to the line. Renton edged ahead in the final 30 metres to take victory in 16:11, just four seconds ahead of McLaughlin in 16:15. David Hickey Westport AC completed the podium places with a strong run of 16:52. The junior titles went to Aoife Renton and Lorcan Lane, both delivering excellent performances.

A special word of thanks goes to Anthony Murray and Westport Bike Shop Ltd, who generously sponsored the race prizes. Earlier in the day, the Children's Colour Fun Run attracted more than 50 enthusiastic participants. Many youngsters crossed the finish line almost unrecognisable after encountering colour bombs along the route, while two friendly T-Rex characters added to the fun and excitement.

Following the races, families enjoyed a fine selection of refreshments, while children made full use of the school's excellent facilities and playground in the sunshine. Tony Fitgerald of Clew Bay Oysters, a past student of the school was a key partner in making this event happen though generous donation.

The event was a tremendous success for the local community, raising over €1,500 for Carrowholly National School. Organisers expressed their gratitude to all runners, volunteers, spectators and sponsors whose support made the day possible. Special thanks were extended to local sponsors including Clew Bay Oysters, Logden Homes, Portwest, Carrowholly Stables, SuperValu, Westnet, Atlantic Property Management, Pat McNulty, and Centra at the Quay.
