There were plenty of happy faces in this county after the presentation in Convoy

A Donegal woman who has made her home in North Mayo received a big boost this week having collected a whopping €250,000 in the Win with Donegal GAA prize draw.

Anne Duffin, who hails from Ardara but now calls Ballina her home, scooped the big prize in the fundraiser, which collected over €470,000 to fund further development at the Donegal GAA Training Centre in Convoy.

Ms Duffin’s name was drawn at a special event held in Jackson’s Hotel Ballybofey, a stone’s throw from Donegal’s traditional home venue, MacCumhaill Park, on Sunday, August 30.

Initial attempts to contact the winner by telephone were unsuccessful, but when Anne was eventually reached, it emerged that she had strong Donegal connections but now resides on the banks of the Moy.

Donegal GAA Chairperson Mary Coughlan thanked everyone who backed the draw at the presentation of the life-changing prize.

"I want to thank everyone who bought a ticket and supported this draw, right across Donegal and beyond,” she stated.

“My thanks also go to the committee and to the clubs who worked so hard to make this campaign a success.

“The response we've seen puts us in a great place for the future, and it means we can move ahead with real confidence on delivering a facility that will serve players and the wider Donegal GAA community for decades to come."

The funds will go towards a state-of-the-art gym to facilitate all men’s and women’s inter-county sides.
